General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Chronic cough with phlegm production can be caused by chronic bronchitis or bronchiectasis. In this case, because the x-ray report is normal, he may benefit from having a lung CT scan or MRI to rule out these chronic conditions.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General & Family Physician
