What Causes Persistent Cough In A Toddler Despite Antibiotic Treatment?

We are on vacation in Hawaii... Prior to vacation our 2 year old daughter was given antibiotics for a cough, which our doctor said was a common cold... Our Daughter (Ellery) has taken the full course of antibiotics, but over the past week the cough has progresses worse than ever... The cough comes on when she lays down or sleeps. The cough sounds very chesty but there is no mucus discharge from her and her nose is not running... Apart from the cough at night time, she seems undisturbed by any other symptoms.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

We have to rule out possible causes like whooping cough.
Do a chest X-rays and sputum culture and change antibiotics according to the culture reports.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
