What Causes Persistent Cough Leading To Vomiting Sensation?

I was sick with congestion cold and took a Z-Pac Antibiotic. After 7 days was better. Now I have a cough that does not seem to get better or go away unless I take a cough suppressant. Not coughing anything up but cough until I almost throw up. Have had this for 4 days? No real allergy symptoms. Any idea?
