What Causes Persistent Dark Brown Spotting Post Withdrawal From BC Pills?

I have been on birth control steady for 2 years, as well as maintaining my lady appointments with no irregular results. I have also only had one partner for the last 3 years. Recently, I have been having dark brown/orange spotting for nearly 3 weeks straight with a couple days reprieve. 2 months ago I had a 2 week lapse in birth control pills due to an insurance error. I have minor cramping occasionally. My question is: should I see a doctor or is this just a side effect from that 2 week lapse? I m not concerned about STDs but I didn t know if this could be a sign of something more severe. Thanks.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

It is quite common after stopping contraceptive pills and will settle by itself.

No definite treatment is required. If symptoms persist you can consult a gynecologist for expert evaluation.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
