Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Persistent Diarrhea With Abdominal Distension?
I am a 23 years old male. For the last year I ve been having a lot of diarrhea(not a water diarrhea but more like flakes). I have a lot more diarrhea then I have normal solid stool. When I do have solid stool it looks really weird, always very light brown and sometimes it consists of 2 colors: light brown and green. Sometimes I have to deficate 5 times in a few hours and my belly feels distended almost every day. When i eat corn or bell pepper, it comes out undigested in not more then 6-8 hours. I dont lose weight and i am still hungry. I drink enough water, i have a healthy diet with enough fruit and vegetables.
To me, you are having malabsorption problems and that should get further investigated. So better consult with a gastroenterologist, and run abdominal ultrasound, fecal analysis, stool examination for ova parasites, stool culture for Candida.
Liver, kidney, pancreas function tests should run to rule out respective problems.
I can only suggest starting probiotics until you see the gastroenterologist and run the tests as requested above.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Albana Sejdini, General & Family Physician
