Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
A friend , 80 years of age, has had almost daily bouts of diarrhea since the end of December. He has been given pills from his doctor which do not help. What could be causing this? His gall bladder has been checked, colonoscopy was fine, all blood work came back fine.
If your friend had a normal colonoscopy, then the other cause of persistent diarrhea should be investigated for hyperthyroidism, IBS etc., should be ruled out. At this age, psychogenic etiology may also be considered, particularly obsessive compulsive habit of going for evacuation.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Satnarain Bansal, General & Family Physician
