What Causes Persistent Diarrhea?

I am a 66 year old female who has had diarrhea since the morning of 7/11/17. I called my Dr locally today and they said a completely clear liquid diet until tomorrow after lunch. The only thing I have had today other than clear liquids is a boiled egg for breakfast and a baked potato for lunch. I ate these because I thought I was doing better. I have had 7 bouts of diarrhea since eating the potato at 1pm. I seem to be getting worse. Everything is going through me. I have no fever and no vomiting. Is there anything more I need to do?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for asking. I undertand your concern.
Your doctor had correctly suggested for liquid diet...diarrhea is many times due to indigestion/infection (viral, bacterial),food allergies or psychological stress...&is mostly relieved by rest to digestive treact (thats why clear fluid diet)
In present scenario you have to take rest, continue with liquid diet only... (take oral rehydration therapy powder with boiled water)sufficient to keep you hydrated
In case the symptoms get worst/fever &cramps /signs of dehydration-dry mouth, sunken eyes,dizziness-are observed... you should move to ER foe fluid replacement &needful antibiotic treatment.
Thanks.
