Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello. I had two fillings yesterday at my dentist appointment... one in the front right. I have had several fillings before and have never experienced what I am now. Right after my appointment my sinuses started to drain like a faucet. I couldn't feel it until a few hours after the numbness wore off. Now there is a severe burn when I breathe in my right nostril and I have been sneezing like crazy and my nose won't stop running. I called my dentist and he said it was a coincidence. Has anyone heard of this happening with a novocaine injection near the sinus cavity?
Your symptoms are appearing to be due to the anesthesia and not due to the fillings. Many a times during injection with front upper teeth such symptoms can be seen due to irritation of the sinuses or nasal lining. If you are allergic then it can also be a cause. However, such symptoms are temporary so do not worry about it as gradually when the effect of the anesthesia will wean off from the body the symptoms will start getting better.
As of now you can do cool compresses over the nostrils, take anti-allergics like Levocetrizine to control itching and also do steam inhalation to soothe the nostrils and sinuses. Do saline nasal irrigation.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Honey Arora
