What Causes Persistent Dizziness After Taking Acyclovir?
For three days, I have been using acyclovir 800 mg/2 times daily or a cold sore outbreak. Yesterday I had a beer with no side effects. However, today I became dizzy about 2 hours after taking a dose. I have been dizzy all day, especially in the heat. I have been drinking lots of water and no alcohol. How long will it take for the dose to leave my system? Last dose was at 9 am and I still feel dizzy. Thanks.
Acyclovir is an antiviral medication that is used in the treatment of herpes simplex, herpes zoster, chicken pox etc. This medication has some side effects. It may cause dizziness that may be persistent in nature. Dizziness, confusion, drowsiness may be usually occurred in elderly patients who are more sensitive to the central nervous system effects of Acyclovir than younger people. Plasma half life of Acyclovir is approximately three hours and it may take three days to eliminate fully from the body system.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
