What Causes Persistent Dryness And Chapped Upper Lip?
Hi. My upper lip has been dark and chapped. It also feels tight. I have been using cold sore ointment for over a month and it hasn t fully gone. It doesn t ever get to the stage of a blister nor does it fill up with any kind of puss. This is my third time since March having this kind of occurrence but this is the longest it s ever remained. Any suggestions?
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of persistent dryness and chapped upper lip which seems to be due to hormonal changes , vitamin deficiency , excessive licking and picking of lips and excessive exposue to sun. It could be due to viral infection as well. All theses factors produce dryness and melanin pigment that cause darkening of lips.
Need not to worry. I would suggest you to wash affected area with mild soap and cold water twice daily. you should drink plenty of fluids to prevent lips from drying and exfoliate one a week. Apply kojivit cream at night and apply lip balm with broad spectrum sunscreen with SPF 15 through out the day. If condition doesn't get improve in a month then consult dermatologist for proper examination . Doctor may recommend chemical peeling or laser therapy .
Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
