My 3 year old has been generally unwell for 5 months with random spikes in fever, episodes of vomiting, pink eye, ear infections, and pain in legs. During a follow-up doctors visit some bloodwork was done to see how the latest round of steroids and antibiotic were doing to fight the pink eye and ear infection. Her blood work showed high level of wbc (22.3), neutrophils (16.6), monocytes (1.7), and platelets (582), and glucose serum (34). Because her labs were so abnormal she had them repeated at the hospital a week later and a week post steroid/antibiotic, where they were still abnormal. Finally, her labs were repeated a week after the last abnormal labs (2 weeks post steroid/antibiotic) and the wbc, neutrophils, and glucose were all in normal range BUT her platelets are 575 and monocytes are 1.7. We are very concerned that the high platelet count is virtually unchanged and seem to indicate an issue with bone marrow. Could this be some type of cancer?
