Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband has a very enlarged tongue. Has been enlarging for the past 5 years. It is so big that when he went to the dentist he refused to work on him. He has tried Mayo Clinic, Texas Tech, Univ. of New Mexico and still he has not found anyone that knows what be the cause.
Understanding your concern. As per your query your husband has persistent enlargement of tongue which occurs due to a condition called macroglossia. Need not to panic about it. There are certain difficulties with this like speech problems, jaw development and dental abnormalities, Feeding difficulty and it can get easily ulcerated as well. Visit oral surgeon once and get it examined and take preventive measures to manage it. It could be possible that is is due to certain systemic diseases like down's syndrome, so its p[roper examination is must. Maintain proper oral hygiene by brushing and flossing.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Get Well Soon.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
