What Causes Persistent Fever Along With Lump In Neck?
Hi.. I want to ask something about my father..he is getting fever every day and we noticed a small lump near neck..doctors did a culture test and told that there is pus in the lump and due to antibiotics lump size got decreased..and also bcos of regular fever his platlet count Iis fluxuating..rbc wbc heamHeamoglobin etc is normal..can you suggest something? ?
A few causes of a lump in the neck may be an infected and enlarged lymph node, an infected sebaceous cyst, folliculitis, impetigo or other viral infective causes of pustules. If he is still getting fever, it means infection still persists.
Start on a new antibiotic course for 5 days based on the culture and sensitivity report. Let him take tab. Paracetamol 500mg for fever every 6th hourly. If the swelling doesn't reduce in size considerably or if fever persists, please do go for intravenous antibiotics. Meet a surgeon and let him decide which antibiotic is better for your father at this stage. Once infection gets controlled, platelets will return to normal.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Pallavi M., Anesthesiologist
