Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Persistent Fever, Sore Throat And Swollen Glands In A Child?
My daughter has been sick for 10 days, with a fever (reaching 103.5) sore throat and swolleng glands. She has been to urgent care and ER. She is on a Z pack, prednisone and an allergy med. Nothing is helping. Her throat is so sore she can barely eat. Today she has broken out in a rash all over her neck, chest, stomach and back. We can not get her into her pcp and the nurse has not returned our calls yet. Trying to find out if she should stop taking any of the medications, or what on earth is causing all of this, for so long? Negative for strep and mono!
Sore throat is usually viral. Hers is likely viral since the strep test was negative.
The rash may be a viral exanthem which is the presence of a rash in viral illness. It usually resolves with a viral illness.
Prednisolone is commonly used for severe allergic reactions or in an acute asthmatic attack, if there is no history of allergies then you may need to ask the reason for its use.
The use of anti-inflammatory pain medication would reduce her throat pain e.g. Aleve vs Ibuprofen, these would also reduce any swelling in the throat. Use of meds such as colonial throat spray or chloroseptic spray would also help as well.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
