What Causes Persistent Fever With Alternating Chills And Sweating?

Hi, I ve had fever 6 days now. It alternates between shivering/ chills and profuse sweating, mostly at night. First 3 days, it alternated every 4 hours. I got WBC yesterday and it said 31.8. Xray read atherosclerotic aorta. No urinalysis as I got my period. Past 3 days got tummy aches and just took dicycloverin. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

WBC are very high. It usually indicates the presence of an infection in the system. So, I suggest to do a urine test to help through the diagnosis. I recommend to start a cycle of antibiotics which should be taken on prescription. I recommend to use anti inflammatory medication to treat the chills such as Acetominophen 500 mg three times a day.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
