What Causes Persistent Headaches Along With Sensitivity To Smells?

I have been having quite a few headaches lately (the past two weeks), and have been experiencing a thick type feeling in my head; last nite I suddenly woke up smelling burnt toast. The smell was so intense that I got up and checked to see if my teenage son was awake and making toast. Could there be a connection between the two? I remember hearing about a connection between smelling burnt toast and strokes; is there any validity to this?
