What Causes Persistent Headaches?

We live in San Diego and my wife has been having bad headaches for the past 10 days. She has had an X-ray of her sinisis which was negative. She is wondering if it could be an allergy? Pain medications like extra strength Ibuprofen by prescription and Excedren don t have any effect. Any thoughts? Thanks, Kemp Ruffner
