What Causes Persistent Hiccups Post Cardiac Catherization?
Hello, my husband just had a cardiac catherization last july 7 and after that he has been experiencing hiccups. The only medicine he took was a blood thinner. The hiccup stops for a few minutes and goes back again. He could hardly sleep. He is afraid to drink or eat. He is going crazy. He had his quadruple heart bypass last March 21, 2016 only. Please help. I am here in the Philippines and my husband is there in Seattle, Washington.
Based on the history you have shared, it can be blood thinner like aspirin which may cause gastric acid secretion increase which can trigger the hiccups.
He may feel better using antacids like Omerperazole before meals and Sucralfate. If it persists motility agents like Domperidone may also be helpful. Muscle relaxants like Baclofen may be used if others fail.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
