What Causes Persistent High Blood Pressure Despite Taking Medication?

I was prescribed Norvasc 2.5mg for hypertension 10 days ago and I am out of my home state until next Monday and my blood pressure is stil running 170 over 109 and frequently higher. I have unable to get my doctor, can I take 2 tablets - 1 in the morning and one at night?

Hi Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern...
Norvasc 2.5mg contains amylodipine 2.5 mg which is a Blood pressure lowering drug . However 2.5 mg is a very small dose & you might require higher dose to get your Blood pressure down. Blood pressure of 170/109 mm Hg is still high after the medication. Alternatively combination of amylodipine with other drug( usually beta blocker) can be given to you.
So you should consult your doctor & he would Take your history & change your medicine( either the dose or add another drug). In meanwhile you could it twice a day or 5mg dose in the morning. Minimize your salt intake.

Refer to your physician

Hope this helps
