Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Persistent Hot Flashes Despite Taking Medication?
I am on 0.1mg/day estradiol patch & my E2 level was only 27. I am 61 y/o & had surgical menopause at age 48. Currently STILL having hot flashes that wake me from sleep for about the past 2 years. Also have osteoporosis. No history of breast cancer in family. Is there another option for me? can I possibly double the dose to get relief? should I consider switching to po premarin?
Hot flashes after menopause are common and can be managed well with your gynecologist’s advice. You said you have osteoporosis and I hope you are taking medicines for that as well as making sure you have included foods that provide all supplementary nutrition to improve your condition.
If you are experiencing worsening of symptoms then I suggest you meet your gynaecologist and follow her advice. Because the underlying reason for the symptoms can be something else and not always related to menopause. Changing the dose of any medicine on your own is not advisable as that can lead to other unwanted effects which can make things worse than before. Its always good to talk to your doctor about dosage of medicine and clear your doubts.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
