What Causes Persistent Infection In Wounds Along With Fever?

Hi, My 80 year old mother fell and gashed her legs 2 months ago. The wounds won t heal. She has been going to a wound care clinic for 3 weeks. Last week they discovered it was infected again and put her on antibiotics. She is in so much pain it makes her shake and now is running a fever.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
hello and thanks for writing.

I can understand your concern for your mom and will do the best i can to help her. Repeated wound infecrions can be due to diabetes, steroid medications or any chronic medication. You might require some tests like fasting and post prandial blood sugar, wound swab culture and X ray of the area to rule out deeper spread of infection to bone. I suggest you visit a physician so that you can be properly evaluated and put on a management plan.

Hope it helps.

Regards
Dr Manish Jha
