What Causes Persistent Knee Pain Despite Taking Medication?
17 years knee pain, may have fallen during volleyball, twisted this a day later and a few days later its locked up in pain. Nothing in the X-ray, just did a MRI, Dr. Said 4% fliud, nothing to really drain. Did a cortisone shot 5 days ago. Alot of pain still and locked straight for 4 1/2 weeks. P.T. twice a week and P.T doc said something is wrong. What do I do.

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi,
You need to go for CBC to denote the possibility of infection. The fluid seen in MRI might be exudate following inflammation and infection. Please see an orthopedic surgeon for specific advise about antibiotic and anti inflammatory medication. PT after the pain is lessened. You have to take rest / ice pack with mild movements with less of weight-bearing till then.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Vasudha Jayant Athavale, General & Family Physician
