Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Persistent Low Grade Fever, Weight Loss And Poor Appetite?
My 12-year old grandson has had a low grade fever (about 100) for 10 days. He has no appetite at all, has lost weight, is clammy, and today his temperature is 96. He has been to urgent care twice and was prescribed amoxycillan and tylenol. Is there a need for more testing or is this something that needs to run its course?
As primary indication there is definite presence of underlying cause behind the condition of your grandson. He requires at least basic work-up with complete blood counts, ESR, and serum Widal test with x-ray chest.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Purva Patel
