Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Persistent Mild Pain Under The Left Rib Area And Breathlessness?
I have been having a very dull, strong, consistent pain under my rib cage on left side. It feels slightly inflamed and seems to get worse when I walk. It pushes against my diaphragm and at times I have shortness of breath. It was so severe two days ago I started vomiting. No fever, but hot and cold flashes.
Pain and sensation of fullness in the left lower chest area accompanied by shortness of breath can be due to spleen, lower lobe of the left lung or even bowel.
I would recommend you to have a check with your doctor and have your lungs and heart examined and if possible an abdominal ultrasound. Your doctor may ask for a chest x-ray and other tests and examinations, depending on the findings during the physical exam. According to the results of these examinations, the doctor will decide on the cause and a possible management plan.
I hope this answers your query and is helpful to you. Let me know if I may assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General and Family Physician
