Hi.
Understanding your concern.
Persistent mucus congestion in nose and throat is a commonest symptom of upper
respiratory tract infection that is usually caused by a virus that infects the nose and throat.
Nasal congestion, runny nose, post-nasal drip, which is a drop-by-drop release of nasal fluid into the back of the throat, headache, and fatigue. Cough and mild fever may also accompany these symptoms.
In some instances, a cold may cause swelling in the sinuses, preventing the outflow of mucus. This can lead to a
sinus infection.
To get rid of excessive mucus and its accompanying symptoms like cough and
sore throat, there are several things that you can do. If you have a bacterial infection or allergies, then decongestants and pain relievers may decrease
drainage and open the nasal passages.
At home, you can take these steps to thin out mucus and ease your sinus congestion:
Try using a saline (not medicated)
nasal spray a few times a day.
Drink plenty of water and other fluids each day.
Run a humidifier in your home to keep the air moist.
Try an over-the-counter antihistamine.
Chest rubs make you feel better as though they are helping because camphor, menthol and eucalyptus oil makes nasal passages more sensitive to cold air.
A saline solution of 0.9%
sodium chloride in water is available in nasal mists, sprays and drops from your local chemist or drug store.Saline nasal drops or sprays can be helpful to wash out the nose, which may assist in relieving congestion due to 'irritants'. Saline nasal drops can also be used to moistens nasal passages irritated by dry air.
