What Causes Persistent Muscle Spasms And Uncontrollable Tremor In Arms And Legs?

My husband has had muscle spasms for 3 months, now he has uncontrollable gross tremor (almost like a myoclonus) in both arms and legs. I am a physician; ready to take him to the ER. Resting helps....specifically lack of movement. Any ideas? I am sorry, I cannot pay the fee....ty anyway.
