What Causes Persistent Nasal Congestion And Breathing Problem In A Toddler?
My two year old has always had a nasally congested sounding breathing issue. Usually it is really bad when sick but this week has been awful with zero other symptoms. Anything I can do to get him through the night. I m sharing a room with him now and it s insane to hear him struggling to breath. 2 year old Dairy free Frequent, consistent bowel movements No cough, runny nose, sneezing Otherwise healthy
Hello and welcome to HCM, Nasal congestion with sounding breathing issue suggests respiratory tract infection mainly upper respiratory tract infection. Difficulty in breathing is due to obstruction in respiratory tract probably due to accumulation of secretions. I suggest you to consult a pediatrician for clinical assessment and prescription of antibiotic if evidence of infection is there. The nasal congestion can be managed with anti-histamines. Please do not delay consultation with pediatrician since immune system of children is not fully developed and due to this infection can worsen.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
