What Causes Persistent Pain After Wisdom Tooth Removal?

i got my wisdom teeth taken out a week ago today & i'm still having a little bit of pain.. it's getting better slowly but its still very uncomfortable to swallow, spit or just even eat food. I'm just wondering if the healing process is supposed to take this long.. i brush my teeth & have been rinsing with salt water. i might add that i do smoke though, if that has anything to do with it.. also how long until i can no longer get a dry socket?

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

As it is already a week and you are not in severe pain or discomfort then the chances of dry socket are negligible..
The pain is just a normal course of healing and the pain will get relieved i another 3-4 days.
So my suggestion is to continue following the post extraction remedies that you are doing and if the pain is disturbing, you can take pain relievers like Ibuprofen..
If the pain does not relieve completely in another 3-4 days or continue to worsen then you can consult your Dentist and get evaluated..

Hope this helps..

Regards.
