What Causes Persistent Pain And Swelling In The Foot?

I had a fall in which my metatarsal/ proximal phalangeal joints were hyper flexed with my body weight landing on my foot with toes bent under my foot. X-rays were taken with no fracture noted. I had significant pain for 6 months and now feel a swollen area underneath my foot. It feels like I m stepping on something. There is some pain also. Thoughts?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As per my surgical experience, the pain and swelling in the foot after a period of 6 months of injury indicates partial inflammation at the injury site involving some of the ligaments of foot or ankle joint. Common one is being anterior talofibular ligament. In my clinic, I do request patient to undertake an MRI of the local part to get more tissue details and manage accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
