What Causes Persistent Pain And Swelling In Thumb Joint?
I fell 6 months ago right on my thumb knuckle still swollen can t bend thumb joint on thumb hurts . got a shot one week ago . still swollen and hurts . people say it can take up to year for it to go back to normal. that sounds too long .what do u think?
I have gone through your query and can understand your concern..
As per your complain it seems that due to injury there is a hematoma formation and many a times after injury there is accumulation broken blood vessels, inflammatory cells and dear fibres around the hematoma and make it localized and it lead to formation of a swollen mass that takes a longer time to resolve.. But as it s already six months and there ois pain and swelling and the movement is also painful I would suggest you to consult an Orthopedician and get evaluated and he can also advise you t get an x ray done to rule out for fractures so that the exact cause of the swelling is ruled out and treatment can be planned accordingly.. As of now you can take diclofenac or Ibuprofen for pain, apply a steroid ointment over the thumb and do alternate warm and cool compresses.. Try to do appropriate movement to prevent further stiffening of the thumb..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
