What Causes Persistent Pain In Back And Right Leg Post Back Surgery?

I am having post surgical pain from back surgery wherein a vertebrae was removed and replaced with a metal plate....I am having pain in the area and the pain goes down my right leg, standing for very long is really painful. I have been trying to use icyhot with some success....would this gel be a better bet or trying to see what happens worth it? Thanks for your response.
