What Causes Persistent Pain In Chest That Radiates To The Sides?
My daughter is out of town and she has been having sharp pains that go from mid chest to her right side. They have been occurring every couple of hours. She describes it like a pain or a catch in her chest. She is 18 and in good health. in the last 30 minutes she has had 3 of these sharp pains
Hello and welcome to HCM, Pain in the chest described as 'catch in the chest' is suggestive of pleural pain. Pleura is the covering of the lungs. Infection and inflammation of the pleura can result in pain in the chest. I suggest you to consult your physician for clinical assessment and relevant investigations. A X-ray chest is the first line investigation required. The X-ray will reveal any pleural effusion or collection of any kind of fluid in the pleural cavity. The X-ray will also determine the status of lung fields and pick up any abnormality in the lung fields. The condition can be treated once the cause for the symptoms is diagnosed.
