Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Persistent Pain In Ear Inspite Of Taking Paracetamol?
I went to the doctor a week ago and was told I have a middle ear infection and was given a course of antibiotics which I am now on the last day for, however I still have earache and the pain is still unbearable to the point where I can t even sleep, I have tried taking paracetamol and using a hot compress but neither seemed to work and I don t know what else to do
Middle infections may not respond to oral drugs alone.Antibiotic ear drops should be used twice or thrice a day in order to relieve symptoms. Antibiotic drops along with local anaesthetic combination is available which can also provide good pain relief and reduce the discomfort. Any excess or impacted ear wax should also be checked for since it can also cause such ear pain.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Saranya Ramadoss, General & Family Physician
