What Causes Persistent Pain In Knee And Ankle Inspite Of Taking Ibuprofen?

a month ago while cooking I hurt my knee after I turn from middle isle to another counter, I felt the pain, took ibuprofen and was kind of ok, some days just keeping my feet up during the weekend will ease the pain, but is getting where it hurts a lot and now when I stand too long on my feet (like cooking time), go grocery shopping or driving (most painful) it hurst where I can hardly walk. Is the back of my knee and pain shoots all the way to my from ankle, using a heating pad helps a bit, I have a dr. appointment until Monday, what can I do in the meantime to help the pain?
