Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I'm 75 years old & I've been having pain in my left lower-rear jaw for several weeks. It's especially sore when I eat or sing in choir. I failed to have my dentist check my jaw when I went for a checkup last week. He usually checks me for it, but failed to check it too. I was going on this website to see if it was maybe TMJ.
Pain in lower jaw can occur due to a number of causes like tooth infection, gum infection, inflamed salivary gland under the jaw, jaw joint dysfunction, teeth clenching habit, ear infection etc..
I would suggest you to consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and he can do a clinical evaluation of the inside of mouth that is oral cavity as well as structures surrounding the jaw along with jaw joint and advise you investigations like full mouth x ray or Orthopantomogram and treat you according to the cause as treatment may vary as per cause..
As of now you can take Acetaminophen or Advil to relieve pain.. Take a soft diet and avoid excess mouth opening.. Avoid stress and do meditation and breathing exercises..
Hope this helps..
Regards..
