What Causes Persistent Pain In Right Knee While Suffering From Shingles?

i have had bad pain in my right knee for over a month now, 2 months ago i was diagnosed with shingles in this knee, the pain got really bad , it became enflamedand very warm to the touch, so i went to the ER, there they took a fluid sample and checked for gout, said that was NOT the problem, they gave me an antiinflamatory which stopped the inflame , now over 3 weeks later i am still in alot of pain, especially at nite, it goes clear up into my hip ! can you help me ?

hi
thank you for asking your concern and welcome to HCM. shingles is actually a very painful condition and if it is not treated timely sequel of the disease is also painful. doctors call it as post herpetic neuralgia. i would like to assure you try not worry about post herpetic neuralgia because it is treatable condition but yes it will take some time because the nerve tissue changes has to be restored.
first i would like to suggest you to visit your consulting physician to get treatment for this condition. there are some medication for this like carbamazepine, imipramine, amitryptylline which should be taken with proper consultation of your doctor.
next important thing is to rule out other conditions of knee pain like osteoarthritis as you are getting pain in night time. you should get screened for diabetes also. for that also you should consult your doctor.
feel free to ask any doubt.
regards
dr. abhijit
