What Causes Persistent Pain In The Ear?

I have had pain in my left ear since I became a teenager. I am now 65 years old. Over the years I would have periods of time of time when it would not bother me. This time (about 3 weeks) the pain has not let up. I also have slight pain in right ear but not very often. This started approximately about 5 years ago. Today I had pain in both ears and in my right chest and right arm. It went away after 20 minutes. But not my left ear. Today and few times in the past few weeks, in my left ear I have heard and felt fluid moving in my left ear. FYI! I take a lot of medicine due a lot of different conditions, especially Fibromyalgia and Depression. Can you help me?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Since you are a chronic patient of pain (L) ear & now your are having pain in the (R) ear, it could be due to OM, Otitis Media or SOM. Sometimes ear pain is also due to wax in the ear. You are suggested to visit an ENT, get ears examined, get Imaging tests & audiometry test done if required. You may need antibiotics if there is infection. In case of wax, your ENT will do an ear wash at the clinic or give some ear drops before doing it. Chest pain is commonly due to stress, anxiety or some drug addictions. Stay away from all these. Medical conditions that cause chest pain are GERD, Angina, Obesity or any developing CAD. Get connected to a cardiologist, get all cardiac tests (LFT, Stress test, EKG, Echo, X-Ray, etc) done. Get clinically examined & treated at the earliest. Avoid spicy, junk food. Switch to healthy lifestyle.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
