What Causes Persistent Pain In The Lower Left Abdominal Area?

Hello, just researching. Having the past 4 days or so pain in my lower left front abdomen. My job does involve heavy lifting and up and down ladders and have been working extremely hard lately. I m 61 years old. I was off on rotation for the past 2 days and the problem almost disappeared but after working this evening, some swelling has occurred with some sharp pain occurring here and there. Almost feels like a muscle pull that I keep aggrevating when working but hoping not a hernia. Question is IF a routine muscle pull in the very lower left abdomen, how long will it take to heal. I think I ve had this before and it took a week or two to get better. Thoughts. Thanks! RJ

Hello RJ,
Thank You for trusting HealthcareMagic

Abdominal muscle strain / pull will heal approximately in 2-3 weeks. If severe,it can take upto 6 weeks. You need to take rest and avoid strenuous exercise for healing.
There are few things you can try to help relieve the symptoms faster
-Apply heat compress to hep relax muscles
- Take ibuprofen, if not allergic for pain
-Take adequate rest. Avoid lifting heavy weights

However I recommend ruling out the possibility of Hernia.Hernia can be ruled out only after proper physical examination. Untreated Hernia can lead to serous complications. Please be advised to consult a Primary care Provider for ruling out hernia.

Hope I was able to answer your question
Please address any more concerns
