What Causes Persistent Pneumonia Despite Taking Antibiotics?
I have had pneumonia for 6 weeks now. Given moxifloxicillin, amoxicillin, co amoxiclav and now, finally Clarithromicin. First day of the latter- still have back pain and shoulder pain. Do u think this antibiotic will work and if not what's next in terms of tests, etc? Many thanks. I am female, 62, with no serious health issues.
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of persistent pneumonia despite taking antibiotics because your immunity is lower down because of infection. It is due to persistence of lower respiratory tract infection. Need not to worry. you should take preventive methods such as avoid intake of cold carbonated beverages. You should take proper course of antibiotics along with steam inhalation as well. You should take paracetamol to prevent fever and combination of decongestants and multivitamin tablet. Your symptoms will resolve in 5-7 days. If your symptoms keeps on persisting the visit pulmonologist once and get vaccination done and start treatment accordingly. You should get X-ray chest done.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Get Well Soon.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
