What Causes Persistent Pneumonia Despite Taking Antibiotics?
I was rushed to the emergency room last Friday night because I felt so terrible - my fever which started wednesday hasn t gone down, i was throwing up everything I was eating, and my hands and feet were going numb. Long story short I was diagnosed with pneumonia that night and I was admitted na. These are my medications: Hydrite 24/7 Zitromax 3 days 500mg - DONE Potassium solution 4 doses - DONE Rocephin 2g every 24 hours Livopront 10ml 2x a day Fluimucil one tab once a day Omepron in the morning daily IV Paracetamol every 6 hours But until now my fever keeps returning when the paracetamol wears off. My doctors were stumped. So this morning they gave me another xray and cbc. And my xray showed that there was no improvement. In fact, it even deteriorated a little. So they switched my antibiotic from Rocephin to Piperacillin - Tazobactam. Pls let me know what you think. I m a little frustrated that they didnt get my antibiotics right the first time. I really want to get better already.
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of persistent pneumonia despite taking antibiotics because your immunity is lower down because of infection. It is due to persistence of lower respiratory tract infection. Need not to worry. You should take paracetamol to prevent fever and combination of decongestants and multivitamin tablet. Your symptoms will resolve in 5-7 days. If your symptoms keeps on persisting the visit pulmonologist once and get vaccination done and start treatment accordingly. You should get X-ray chest done. You should take preventive methods such as avoid intake of cold carbonated beverages. You should take proper course of antibiotics along with steam inhalation as well.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Get Well Soon.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
