What Causes Persistent Pneumonia Despite Taking Antibiotics?
My husband 69 has had pneumonia for almost 3 months. He was treated with two separate courses of antibiotics, which he completed . His latest Chest X Ray shows pneumonia worse. His primary care doctor is booked so he is supposed to see a nurse assistant today. I am concerned about what we should do. He also has A-Fib and is on two different medications for that.
hi thanks for posting in HCM I have understand your concern
if the pt's pneumonia is worsening inspire of antibiotics, probabilities are 1.treating a different organism 2.wrong antibiotic selection without culture 3.any underlying comorbidities worsening it
so I can suggest you 1.sputum for AFB, culture and sensitivity and for fungal stain 2.2D echo to look for cardiac function
depending upon the results we can go for appropriate medications
hope this helps you any further questions kindly get back thanks
