Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Persistent Redness In The Eyes Despite Taking Medication?
My three year old son has allergies and is prescribed Zyrtec, he has not been taking it regularly and after a trip to the country he came home with redness and swelling around his eyes and forehead. We gave him the Zyrtec and are not sure if it s helping. He had yellowish snot this morning and the swelling is getting a bit worse. Should we wait and see if the Zyrtec works or take him to the er now?
Zyrtec is an anti-allergic medication. Redness and swelling around eyes is probably due to allergy. If the redness and swelling do not respond to anti-allergic drops, the symptoms may be due to some other reason.
I suggest you consult your ophthalmologist for clinical assessment and exact diagnosis of the condition and thus treatment.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
