What Causes Persistent Ringing In Left Ear With A History Of Vertigo?

I have ringing in my left ear now for about 2 yrs. I had full vertigo last October and went to my family doctor to refer me to a e.n.t. doctor. Gone to the Glen Rose clinic and had a number of tests done from hearing to balance. Waiting for a referal to see a e.n.t. and now I have a appointment to see someone in September. Now they want to do even more tests . I also had 2 m.r.i.s to go along with all the other tests. Bottom line , is there anyone els in Alberta that I can see to help me. Its been almost a year now and I still haven t seen anyone. Also I have a feeling of my left ear being full like flying in a plane and your ear popping . I really don t what els to say only that i seem to be waiting a long time to see someone and get some help.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you are suffering form persistent ringing in left ear with a history of vertigo . Well there can be many reasons for vertigo like benign paroxysmal positional vertigo , Vertigo may also be caused by inflammation within the inner ear sometimes due to infection , meniere's disease , acoustic neuroma , sinusitis and multiple sclerosis . I would suggest you to consult with ENT specialist for proper checkup so that there will not be any further complication . Doctor may order certain test like CT scan , MRI , blood test , audiometery test , rotatory chair test and ECG to confirm the diagnosis . Doctor may prescribe ant emetic drug , sedatives , antibiotics and some ear aid . Doctor may also refer you to neurologist for migraine and may prescribe vasograine , betablockers or frusamide .In such cases yoga and meditation can help alot . For now avoid bending foreword , take steam , drink green tea thrice a day and do light exercises daily . Doctor may also prescribe supplement like ginkgo biloba.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
