What Causes Persistent Severe Cough Along With Pain In Lower Back?
Hi, I have had an awful persistent deep heavy cough which gets worse in the evenings when lying down, for a few weeks now. Have been using OTC med s, an inhaler, cough medicine and nothing seems to be clearing it. I have NOT been to the Dr. due to not having health insurance right now, and have had bronchitis several times in past few years. I also have Lupus and RA. My lower back, right hand side is now hurting more than ever each & every time I cough. Any thoughts or ideas on how to handle? Or maybe seeing a Dr. to be sure its not pneumonia? Thank you, Patti
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of persistent severe cough along with pain in lower back which are pointing towards condition known as severe upper respiratory tract infection. You may have lung infection or bronchitis. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist without any delay. Mast cell stabilizers such as sodium cromoglycate is effective to prevent infection. Do warm saline gargles with pinch of salt water. Severe back pain is due to prominent cough only. Take expectorants. Doctor may order blood test , throat swab test or virus culture test. You should get an x ray of the chest and Immunoglobulin G levels checked for further treatment. Doctor may prescribe antibiotics amoxicillin or penicillin at least for 10 days along with decongestants and mucolytic agents. Doctor may refer you to cardiologists if pain is of cardiac origin. For now do warm saline rinses , take rest. You should avoid hot, sharp and spicy foods. Steam inhalation is very effective for you.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
