What Causes Persistent Severe Electric Shock Pain In Shoulder?

I have been having severe electric shock pain in my left shoulder. I have experienced this pain throughout my adult life but the last 3 1/2 weeks it is happing more often, 3 or 4 times a day. The pain comes quick, is very severe causing almost like a paralyzing shocking feeling from my shoulder down my arm and sometimes shoots up to my head. Sometimes i feel it on the left side of my tongue like it s pulling at it. I feel I can t speak for a moment when that happens. This last from 10 to 20 seconds and is so suddenly painful that I have a spasm and it causes me to cry out. Its dangerous when I m driving and embarrassing if i m working with a Client. Today, after my chiropractic visit (I consulted with him regarding this) I was driving down a freeway when I had another attack. The second time today. Luckly I was near the exit but could hardly steer with my right arm because it was so severe and lasted longer than normal. I ve had 4 today. I m a very active person but it usually occurs when I m not active at the moment. I m not sure what kind of doctor I should be seeing for this. I also get tension headaches on my left side often that affect me from head to toe at their severest. They can last for hours. I was taking so may tension headache pills last year that I got an ulcer which I was told can happen. I m 71, healthy, eat well, but I do love sweets a little, take only vitamins and supplement almost daily and a vaginal hormone 2x weekly. No other meds. Can you recommend the type of doctor that I might see?

Brief Answer:
Require an x-ray and MRI scan for suspected rotator cuff impingement.

Detailed Answer:
Warm Welcome. I appreciate your trust in HCM and assure you are on best portal on the globe for expert online medical services.

I have thoroughly reviewed health query you raised, and well realize all of those concerns. Being your physician, I will take care all of them today and will extend my expertise to solve the problems.

Based on what you, I suspect impingement of rotator cuff tendon and bursa called shoulder impingement syndrome. It usually occurs when you are repetitively lifting arms for any activity. Due to this, you are having difficulty to lift the arm and pain.

You should consult a nearby orthopedician. If I were your treating physician, I would first order an x-ray shoulder to rule out any bony spur. An MRI scan may also be needed to see the rotator cuff injury and signs of inflammation. A following treatment plan will take its course:

• You may take tab. naproxen 20mg once a day after meal for your pain.
• Give rest to your shoulder and avoid overhead activities.
Physiotherapy may also be needed in your case to improve shoulder movements.
• If above remedies fail, a steroid shot may be advised by orthopedician and is very effective.

Hope I addressed all the concerns you have. Let me know if you have further questions. I will be more than happy to clear any doubts. Keep a follow up to see how you doing.

Regards!
