Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I ve been having a throbbing pain in my throat for the past 2 or 3 months. Not all the time just random time throughout the day some worse than others on the left side (my left). I ve read that it could be stress but I also smoke so I m concerned it could be something else. Also my mom had Tyroid cancer last year, this is the first case of Tyroid cancer in my family.
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of persistent severe pain in the throat, well there can be many reason for symptoms you mention in query like sore throat, pharyngitis , acid reflux and it could be due to mallory weiss tear.
Need not to worry about it. I would suggest you to do warm saline gargles several times a day and take plenty of fluids. You should take ibuprofen or acetaminophen for pain and should not sleep immediately after having food. For now eat light meals and avoid spicy and acidic food. You should consult ENT specialist for proper examination of the condition. Doctor may order throat swab test and blood test and may prescribe antibiotics along with antiinflammatory medications. Doctor may also refer you to gastroenterologist if he/she find problem to be related with acid reflux.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Get Well Soon.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
