Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have lumbar spine pain. It came on all of a sudden this morning. I wasn t bending, lifting or anything. It felt/feels Like a knife is in there being twisted anytime I move. The furthest it shoots is to both hips from my spine. I have tried muscle relaxers and pain medication as well as ibuprofen to be sure it wasn t a strained muscle or anything. Next step is ER. What should I do. Never mind. I don t have the money for this. Thanks
Persistent low back pain may be due to many reasons like inter-vertebraldisc prolapse in L/S spine, hypothyroidism, low calcium and vitamin D level, muscle spasm etc. You may need clinical correlation and investigations. Investigations include routine hemogram, random blood sugar, liver and renal function test, thyroid profile, vitamin D and calcium level estimation, urine RE/ME,X-ray of L/S pine (AP/lateral view).MRI of L/S spine can also be done after evaluation. MRI can assess nerve roots, disc prolapse etc which are very helpful in management. Proper treatment depend upon findings.
