What Causes Persistent Sore Throat And Cough Despite Administering Augmentin?
5 year old boy was in Urgent Care high fever sore throat ER doctor said possibly strep throat rapid strep test come back negative. Doctor prescribed Augmentin Fever is 100.7 now, he is now belching with sore throat and cough. Should I have him rechecked for the flu
I would suggest you consult a Pediatrician once and get evaluated and go for blood tests, throat swab culture and chest x-ray to find out exact diagnosis and start treatment after complete diagnosis. You should do warm saline gargles and avoid spicy and chilled foods. You should use mist humidifiers in the room. Give plenty of fluids to the child. Give child mild steam inhalation.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Harry Maheshwari

Your son has symptoms of a persistent sore throat and cough despite administering Augmentin which is due to upper respiratory tract infection. I would suggest you consult a Pediatrician once and get evaluated and go for blood tests, throat swab culture and chest x-ray to find out exact diagnosis and start treatment after complete diagnosis.
