What Causes Persistent Sore Throat And White Patches In Throat?
My wife has seen a doctor once a week for the last five weeks. First it was upper respiratory , the next week it turned into sinus and ear infection. She had a steroid shot, took augmentin , and then a stronger medication. ENT was last two doctors and stains he did not need anymore antibiotics. He never did X-ray or took blood to check her. She is very frustrated with still has most of the symptoms and now has sore throat with some white places on her throat. What does she need to do?
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain sore throat along with white patches or spots on he throat seems to be due to bacterial infection in throat also known as strep throat.. It seems to be secondary to upper respiratory tract infection.. As bacterial infection cannot resolve without antibiotic , she needs to take a course of antibiotics like Azithromycin and anti-inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen. Do warm saline gargles and steam inhalations.. You should avoid spicy and chilled foods and sip on warm water.. Do steam inhalations and use a humidifier in your room.. She can do saline nasal irrigations and use decongestant nasal sprays for sinus problem.. Oral decongestants like Phenylephrine and anti allergics like Levocetrizine can relieve..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
