What Causes Persistent Staph Infections Despite Taking Medications?
I have been told that I have staph infection but that s it no one told me where or how bad nothing just that I had it. Well I had my 2nd surgery on the 20th of May and now my elbow is very red part is turning black and I can see puss now. I am very concerned. I went to my dr. 2 days ago and he told me to use silvadeen cream, calcium 3 times a day, vitamin c daily, zinc daily and to continue giving myself rocephin through my PICC line and that should heal my arm. I just started all of that today. So my question is, should I let him know it s getting worse now or do what he said and take my chances of the staph getting more severe? I have a picture of my arm I d like to show someone also
I have read your query and understood your concern. Staphylococcus is a group of organisms that are commonly seen everywhere and cause infection in the humans. These are classified under bacterial species. Antibiotics are the drugs that act against the infecting bacterial organisms and prevent their growth and its effects. Antibiotics prescribed should be taken as per schedule to have full effect of the drug. Some organisms have resistance to the common antibiotics.
So, if the particular antibiotic not cures the infection, culture and sensitivity of the pus is necessary to identify the specific antibiotic. Sensitive drug will cure the wound and prevent the effects of infection. Rocephin belongs to Cephalosporins group that acts against the bacteria. But prolonged use with poor response to the drug gives the impression that the drug is insensitive or became resistant. So, consult the Physician for further management.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Pradeepraj, General & Family Physician
